Hints & Tips

Being Secure

  • Have as much security on the vehicle as possible. Make it as difficult as possible for
even the most determined thief to steal your caravan – after all, the more they have to
remove, the harder it is to get away. And remember this is not just whilst your vehicle is in
storage - hitchlocks and wheel clamps are standard requirements for most insurers even when
    you are on holiday.
  • Remember that Thatcham approved Category One Alarms and Trackers attract insurance discounts for very good reasons – they work and it’s good sense to fit them
  • Storing your caravan at home is as good a place as any but a locking post and locked gates will give you more protection
  • If you don’t have the space or need to store your caravan elsewhere, the Caravan Storage Site Owners Association (CaSSOA) will gladly provide you with details of sites in your area. Remember to check periodically that your caravan is still safe and sound.
  • Don’t leave valuables in your caravan when stored away for the winter and do remember to remove all perishable food stuffs so vermin are not attracted. Untold damage is caused by these creatures and cover is not available under most policies.
  • Always take your insurance documents with you and know the numbers to ring if you need help, but leave your caravan registration documents at home as thieves can use these to prove ownership to unsuspecting buyers if left in the caravan. Instead make a note of the relevant information and keep this safe.
